Servers Moving

On 03/11/11 we received an email from our current host telling us they would be moving to a new network, after further communication with them they told us we would not be able to keep our current IPs.

Losing our IPs means our servers will disappear from peoples server favourites and they will have to re-add them with the new IPs.

From hearing this news we knew we had to find a host and network where IP changes wouldn’t be an issue anymore (In the past this had been out of our budget). We’ve got a new dedicated server lined up with KillerCreation, one of the leading UK hosting companies who are classed as an ISP due to their size and vast network. In terms of server performance there will not be loss, in fact the new network should be better for our overseas players. Our monthly price will also remain the same as we are taking advantage of a special offer.

Within 2 – 5 days I’ll be placing the payment for the new server, this will use the current £75 we had left over from last months donations.

For approximately two weeks we will have both old and new dedicated servers online to transfer players and advertise the new servers. We’ll be advertising the new servers in various ways, in-game and out of game.

With our large player base and regulars the servers should pick up quickly and get back to usual operation. I will post up the new server IPs when they are ready.

We are sorry this has happened again but completely out of our control. We hope you’ll let other players know about the changes and keep close to the community.

HUUUUGE notifications of this move to all servers (i.e. in TF2 when ya join server there's this notification thingie?) so people that don't follow forums know about this too? I'll spam it whenever I'm playing anyway!

Will there be a slight overlap between the new servers coming up and the old servers going down?

I'm thinking that if there is, the old servers could advertise the fact that there was a move to help get all of the users across since they don't all read the forums - e.g. in the server name, in the messages that the server displays to the user, in the message of the day (of whatever it's called - the box that pops up when you join a server) etc etc

EDIT: In fact... what am I saying. The servers can advertise this right now. But... when the new server is up, the new IPs could be advertised.

Don't worry, we'll make use of everything we can think of to advertise the server move to the best of our ability. There is only so much we can do though, so it would be appreciated if the people that do know about this from reading it anywhere, could casually "discuss" it on the servers. (Bring it up as a topic of conversation or something). That would really help raise awareness.

EDIT: dont know if i overread something, my apologies for that if so, but is the amount of servers we have gonna increas then or still 2 css and 3 TF2 servers after the changements?

I think this should be #1 priority for the whole community. Last time we did this, everything went against us and we barely survived. Our best TF2 server- CP/PL server never recovered and we had to remove it, which was crap because it was one of best servers in Europe.

So spread the news, let regulars on your friends list know about the move and our new IPs. I don`t think there will be any problems, but let`s play it safe.

There might be room for a small extra server but I dont want to guarantee anything until we have loaded it up with our current servers.

New dedicated server ordered and paid. Will work on getting things moved over the next couple of days, will post IPs when the servers are ready.
